‘SEEING BEAUTIFUL THINGS’

We indeed saw beautiful things at the launch of ‘Nkili’ Spring/Summer 2012 collection on Saturday at The White Space in Ikoyi.

An air of romance filled the space as guests were treated to champagne and canape’s but also the easy-brezzy blouses Nkili designed.

The Nigerian fashion industry is having a revolution, which is being led by young adults. I’m talking about those in their early and mid-twenties. Could it be because law school and med-school are not so chic? No. It’s the fact that there are many talented young designers there trying new things and bringing in new design and styles to Nigeria.

I loved the blouses with the black printed flowers. My other favourite was a black cape-style blouse which will look really cool with sequin-studded Ankara shorts.

Visit Nkili’s site at www.nkili.com to see more of her designs.

GREY VELVET BOUTIQUE OPENING…….IKEJA CITY MALL, LAGOS, NIGERIA

Isioma Onochie-Aihie and Terae Onyeje launched their new store on the 5th May 2012 at the Ikeja City Mall.

The event was very lovely as it showcased Nigerian designers and also showing a new fashion business staple.

Small businesses appear to be the key to keeping the strong emerging middle-class interested in shopping for luxury goods in Nigeria.

The store stocks clothes from Nigerian designers such as Remi Lagos, Isi Brown, BebeGrafiti, Virtue Clothiers, Xclamations, Kiki Kamanu, Design for Love, RN Jewelz, T.T DALK, Dehadza, Ejiro Amos Tafiri, Republic of Foreigner, House of Farrah, DOT, Nick & Grace and Kola Kuddus.

The event was supported by Bella NaijaHouse of TaraOnoBello.comMillaman & Lautrec Wine & Champagne, and Sleek Nigeria

A warm hearty thanks goes out to Ms Ono Bello for inviting me to the event!

CAKES BY TOSAN “ULTIMATE LUXURY” EXHIBITION…….VICTORIA ISLAND, LAGOS PART 5

The evening began with a mini-documentary screening of Tosan’s cohorts with pastries as well as a speech by the CBTG’s Chief Marketing Director reassuring the audience that their investments and promise to the CBTG will be met.

Tosan gave a very humble speech and was visibly nervous as he reminded the audience “he is a creative in the kitchen” to which they laughed and encouraged him with applause to continue.

Following the epic display of the newest addition to the Cakes by Tosan Group, Cupcakes by Tosan, guests were invited upstairs to the exhibition which I call a cake wonderland.

It’s amazing to see what people can do when they live a purposeful life and use their talent. That was exactly the expression on people’s faces as they marveled at cakes shaped as shoes, castles and even a baby crib!

“This cupcake tastes a lot like ice cream,” “Is cake allowed to taste this good?”, “OMG! There is something magical going on in my mouth and I CANNOT believe it’s a cupcake”

Sad, but true, but yes these were the thoughts people voiced out as they indulged in the free samples of Cupcakes and Cakes by Tosan at the “Ultimate Luxury” Brand Re-Launch at the Civic Center on the 28th and 29th April 2012.

Why Don’t You…

1. Take a trip to Yankari National Park. I’m a big fan of travel and would love to encourage you to travel within Nigeria. We have a lot to offer. Besides our economy is a lot more stable than Europe and the US so spend your pounds and dollars at home.

2. Have your fashion fixation by visiting the new Novesa London store at the Ikeja City Mall. I find the variety of men and women’s dress shirts very good. They have cuff-links shaped like a car steering wheels and sequin and lace embroidery on jeans for women.

3. Indulge your loved ones abroad and send them cakes and / or cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes in Washington D.C. in the US. They offer unique delectable delights for the tastebuds.

4. Switch roles: Your husband can do the cooking for a week and you the wife can take care of the expenses. It’s always to walk in another persons shoes so to speak.

5. Put away the Blackberry or crackberry and read a book. When’s the last time you read a really good book? Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart is our literary pride and joy and The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is another international best seller for a good quick read.

6. Explore Lagos using public transportation with your partner or friends. We have options from Danfo, Red Cab and Yellow Cab. Plus it’s cleaner for the environment to cut down on the use of cars.

7. Volunteer time at children’s Sunday school or after school program’s?

8. See a film, or take a German language class at The Goethe Institut in Lagos Island. Lagos Island has to be my favourite part of Lagos. It’s so rich in culture, art and we ought to take more advantage of the opportunities there.

9. Reconnect with friends and build up past relationships. It’s been prove over and over again by the Harvard Health Review that relationships and having lots friends improves longevity.

10. Plan a family reunion beach picnic. Sounds interesting? Of course it is! What better way to enjoy our lovely beaches than with family.

Fashion and style are timeless. See as a nine year old girl explains her position on fashion.
